My bag line is almost done. I'm still thinking.. should I do a drawstring bag? Basically I've decided to do more utilitarian and use-able bags for all those things we do on a day to day basis. I originally wanted a grocery bag and maybe something for my laptop. You would think a whipping out a couple bags would be a piece of cake for me. I think if my mind were only set on this line then yeah it would be, but I like many others have a dream and a reality that keeps interrupting my dream time. So roughly Its taken me 3 months to figure out 10 bags. Breaking out the sewing machine in 5 years , I totally approached it with a cautious optimism.
My first bag was a bit beachy if you might say so. Fearful of using my real fabric,I decided to work with some stuff I bought a while back when I was into that whole island look for another project. I was totally off with the size of the bag and basically the assembly process. Working out which seam to sew first, should I top stitch? All these things start adding up and the end result was a B minus.
Why??? Stabilizing stretch denim is such a biotch to deal with , and then its been like 10 years since I actively sewn in a zipper. On top of that, I'm missing my attachments for my sewing machine.. AKA zipper foot and the other extras. I have no idea, where thy might be. **Note** Guam is not exactly a sewing and crafting haven and basically your screwed if your machine breaks or your loose something.
My laptop is a 17 inch Gateway and totally bulky, so trying to work out a suitable bag has been my issue. (yeah I'm not rocking a PowerBook) So construction issues basically have been plaguing me for some of the bags. Of course my biggest hurdles right now is i'm using a basic home sewing machine and I no longer have a serger. Attaching seam bindings is such a a task, and so i'm ending up with having to sew French and flat felled seams just to keep the bag looking clean. In my head i'm like..ok..it sucks now, but its just a sample.
A couple days ago, I finish 89% of my 2nd to last bag. A laptop-ish bag. I'm going to make a zip sleeve that you also put in the bag. Those things sorta was helpful when I had a laptop accident and ended up denting my work PowerBook (I miss that slightly dented laptop.)
I seem to be loving the use of denim and some basic printed cotton poplin.

So i'm about 90% done with making my samples. Now I have to do the bigger thing, figure out how to sew and market these things. I hope that at least a couple people out in cyberspace would like my bags and buy some. For Christmas , I don't know yet... Maybe i'll just sew some bags to seed my ideas with a couple people.
